PR is a long game

Sometimes you strike it lucky with your first press release. Sometimes, things go viral. But you have to be in it to win it and that’s true of all PR. Public relations is all about building relationships with people that can help you to spread your word far and wide. But it can take time and patience and resource.

When you think about the communications you yourself receive, you’re more likely to engage with well-positioned pitches that help you with your own pain points. Not one-offs. Nor spammers. This is exactly why dropping into journalists’ inboxes with well-thought out (and that we can do for you) news releases, thought-leadership and the odd offer of free samples or trials goes a long way to buying interest, goodwill and -eventually- coverage.

Good PR is about building your reputation and developing relationships so that journalists know that they can count on if they ever need you.

Planning is everything

It can be hit and miss, especially if you’re only aiming once. Drip feed your news on a regular basis and your investment starts to pay off. Carefully planned, you can get quality messaging out at regular intervals and journalists will start to look out for them.

Think like a journalist

Getting the right story to send out takes skill. Getting the right angle takes practice. Working with a PR specialist will take the strain and stress out of this part of the process. We’re working with different brands, across different sectors every day. We have a really good idea of what’s landing well and what’s not making a splash. The better your PR partner knows your business, the more accurately we can advise you and target your releases.

Nothing to say?

We don’t believe that! There’s always something of interest to shine a light on – whether that’s happened organically or with a little help. Events and launches are great for publicity, but don’t be afraid to make the news with some research or a white paper.

Precision Targeting

As with marketing, PR needs to be tailored to its audience. That’s how you work out who you want to say what to, why and what impact it should have even before it goes out. That comes down to planning, but strategy is where the beauty of PR planning lies.

Done well, done properly, PR can drive sales, raise your profile and reputation and set you aside as the voice of authority – the one to watch.

At Who Why How, we can do this for you – develop and write articles and press releases, build relationships with journalists, take care of enquiries and being the best sounding board when it comes to both PR and marketing.
